CDMA Dryland Race Rules Highlights
 
TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY 
  • If, at the discretion of the Race Marshal, the temperature and/or humidity are detrimental to the health of the dogs, the classes not yet run shall be canceled for the day. 
  • Due to the number of variables involved, absolute cutoff temperature and humidity levels are difficult to specify.  Generally speaking, temperatures ranging from 50 degrees F/ 10 degrees c. to 60 degrees F./ 15 degrees c. or greater, at anytime prior to or during the race, should cause immediate review.
DOGS (Updated Rule!!)
  • In a Dryland event, any dog raced in one class of a race is eligible to race in a second class on the same day (maximum 2 heats per day) if the total lengths do not exceed 7.5 miles.
EQUIPMENT-HARNESSES and LINES  
  • All dogs shall be harnessed in single or double file.  
  • All dogs shall be fastened to the gangline by a neck line and tug line with the exception of the leader(s) who shall be harnessed in the team by a tug line and fastened to each other with a neck line.  
  • A snub line shall be carried on the rig but it shall not be used in any manner other than to tie down and hold the rig.  
  • Canicross lines shall have a shock absorber, be seven to twelve feet in length when fully extended and attach to the runners hip belt.  
  • Bikejoring and scooter lines shall have a shock absorber and be seven to twelve feet in length when fully extended from the front tire. 
  • AN APPROPRIATE AND ADEQUATE HELMET IS REQUIRED IN ALL WHEELED CLASSES.  
  •  A muzzle or any collar that can be hooked as a full choke shall be prohibited.  
WHEELED RIGS
  • The requirement of dog bags is at the discretion of the RGO. If using a dog bag, the rig shall be equipped with a vented dog bag capable of safely restraining and covering a struggling or incapacitated dog. No portion of the dog’s body, with particular attention to the legs and feet, shall be in harm’s way.
  • May have three or four wheels but shall be capable of being driven & controlled by a single driver.
  • Shall have an adequate locking brake system.
  • Shall be equipped with manual steering mechanism.
  • Shall not exceed sixty-four inches (64") / one hundred and sixty four centimetres (164cm) overall width.
  • May be motorized but spark plug wires must be disconnected under the agreement of entry.
BICYCLES
  • A vehicle with two wheels in tandem, handle bars for steering, a seat, and pedals by which it is powered by a single person.
  • No motorized power shall be allowed.
  • Shall have an adequate braking system that works independently of the chain.
SCOOTERS
  • A foot operated vehicle consisting of a narrow footboard mounted between two (2) wheels in tandem, with an upright steering handle, attached to the front wheel.
  • The scooter shall be capable of being operated by a single driver.
  • Shall have an adequate braking system.
